AMOEBA ...oooOOOooo... Words&Music Roger Seldon Cape Town 1988 The sun above , sweet crystals below Here we are community show Holding on to certainty. In your house , your prison of dreams The shutters are closed to the swirling stream The river runs wild above your head. Don't worry if you feather your plans And the feathers come off , then you hit land For you have gained what you have seen. Break away into the River of Chance Lead your goals into another dance Make them happen , make them win, Make them fly. Why waste it on the expected road? You're coming along way from home Blaze a trail on that distant shore You're coming along way from home. The left behind , wherever you turn, They'll be watching you , but what have they learned? They don't imagine that they can too. Break away into the River of Chance Lead your goals into another dance Make them happen , make them win, Make them fly. Why waste it on the expected road? You're coming along way from home Blaze a trail on that distant shore You're coming along way from home.

Cold Nights 03:18
COLD NIGHTS Words&Music Roger Seldon Driekoppen 1983 Cold nights before the fire, watching the wood pile higher and higher To the sky, which will burn forever and more. You and me , we'll discover what it is to be a lover Lost. In our hearts we did not care for all. Golden hearts turned to coal, Knowing that they're growing old. Have to rise to free the soul Now angry and striving to be filled. Guiding lights burn in the fire , cannot see them as they tire, Flickering and dying when we need them to be. See for yourself the crystal ball . Deny your own sight or see it all As clear and stark as a painting of war. Golden hearts turned to coal, Knowing that they're growing old. Have to rise to free the soul Now angry and striving to be filled.

Knowledge 04:22
KNOWLEDGE Words&Music Roger Seldon British Columbia. 1991 In this world I have lost and I have found I have been someone , known someone , left it all behind Moved on to a new day, a new game to play Left my friends and family to watch it all behind. Life is good . It is very , very long Then one day , looking back , you find it has all gone Spent without a thought , more cannot be bought Can't grab more from the box once the lid has been locked. Innocence cannot be buried in a night Though in trying I'll set every wick alight When the fire burns low I'll look back and I'll know Knowledge has been my friend , and it has been my foe. I refuse to wake up when my time is done And looking back see the gaps of things I've left undone Though I may not grow rich this stream it will be fished No dynasty to leave , just a legacy of memories. Grip it with both hands and tear this life apart Leave the mo(u)ld behind , society might laugh Indulge your every lust and satisfy your heart Let inner lighting guide you from the harbourside. Innocence cannot be buried in a night Though in trying I'll set every wick alight When the fire burns low I'll look back and I'll know Knowledge has been my friend , and it has been my foe.

Show Me 04:55
SHOW ME words&music Roger Seldon 1997/circa 1994 Show me the way Fighting all the time Kind of wish it was all mine. Lead on the day Laughing all the time As we're stepping out of line. Knowing The punishment that waits At the end of the week For me. Yes , you! My friend, We will be there at the end Of the corridor of hate And life... Knowing The promises that wait At the end of the week For me. Yes , you! My friend, We will be there at the end Dropping into Another life...

The Story:

In the early 1990's I was most fortunate to have the opportunity to fine-tune my songwriting passion on the northern end of Vancouver lsand with virtuoso cellist Christie Staudhammer. By the late 1990's we were secreting intimate venues and playing to fascinating audiences about the Vancouver artmusic scene. Then continents separated us for many years. None of our music had been recorded. It had been played to the winds of the whispering forests and far flung northern beaches. It had disappeared into the untold layers of Vancouver's buzz. Lost but for the memories of those who'd witnessed it.

BUT WAIT!!

On December 16th 2004 , the day before Christie moved forever to a place I would likely never live, fate put us both in the same city on the same day. She was lured to a secret location in Vancouver and cello tracks to 4 of our classic songs were laid. A few years later I managed to return to the same spot and the mini-album '4-SONGS', featuring Christie Staudhammer on cello, was completed.

For me '4-SONGS' is a whole new direction; backwards and forwards at the same time. It is an opportunity for me, and for those who heard and knew the songs during the North Island diaspora, to hold onto a memory catalyst. There is also a progression in sound from the layered spring onion that unfolds in my previous album 'THE BEAST WITHIN" to the ambient acoustic sounds of the cello on '4-SONGS' backed by subtle but swirling and sometimes bristling electric guitar sounds. Whereas both albums are lyric and acoustic guitar-based (I used a nylon string guitar as my base instrument on both albums) the featured loin-lubing cello of Christie in '4-SONGS' adds another glistening dimension.
